Strömstad 23-27 May 2001

Supporting Information and Programme
EU Bid Info at bottom of page
The theme we hope to address in
this visit will be a multilateral cultural exchange based around choral
performances . We intend to forward the understanding of the Swedish Culture and
language in England, especially the residents of the twin town of Ledbury
through entertainment and musical performance. There will be direct involvement
of a group of youngsters in a dance performance from our new Arts College, this
will be a superb opportunity to give our young people a taste of international
citizenship
The visit will try to build up individual
and personal relationships between like-minded people in Strömstad and Ledbury.
There will also be the opportunity to forward business links and the exchange of
information by invitation of guests at selected venues during the visit.
We hope for a fruitful exchange of ideas between rural area (Ledbury) and
the tourist/coastal area (Strömstad). Our local businesses are very keen to
assist, with local shops being asked to take part with window decorations and
greeting our guests in Swedish.
This is the first major cultural event and
first mass meeting of people from the two towns, the previous visits have been
made at each communities expense and we hope that this visit will further
enhance the understanding of each other’s individual cultures. We put great emphasis on the need for our guests to be hosted
by local families and we have had a most encouraging response to our request for
accommodation.
There will be an opportunity to enable us to
determine future requirements and programme for our twinning activities.
Members of the Strömstad Kommun and also their link group will be
attending because they are also involved with the choral group. There will also
be an opportunity to further discuss the links for Arts and Cultural exchanges
with the Lokstallet exhibition area in Strömstad and the Strömstad
Arts College.
Our event organisation makes much use of modern technology, we use email constantly to correspond and have our own website www.freerange.org/linkgroup which has been most useful in promoting the efforts of our Twinning organisation. Our relationship with local press and media is very strong, as the concept of a twin town in Sweden is most interesting.
I hope that this information is suitable for you to come to a favourable decision to assist our project. If there are any items which require further clarification, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Yours sincerely
