Arrangements to possibly invite HMS Ledbury to anchor in Strömstad harbour for a few days. This event will be attended by the Swedish Cultural Minister. Possibility exists of our own MEP attending with us.

October 2000

Youth visit 30+ participants

2000-2001

Business event in Ledbury to include representations from Strömstad and UK companies representing Swedish partners

Business Interaction

Ledbury- Strömstad Link Group - Draft I

Concept

To provide a platform for promotion, display and advertising of UK- Swedish businesses mainly operating in the following areas;

Location Matching
Ledbury Strömstad
Hereford/Worcester Gothenburg
West Midlands Stockholm

Date Autumn 2000 / 2001

Venue

Localised in Ledbury

The event would have a cottage industry and festival style. It could not be a grand hall NEC production and would undoubtedly have many logistical problems to overcome. One idea would utilise our existing fairly localised central spaces and provide mapping with Viking guides to assist.

The event would attract Swedish visitors as publicity for the event could also be sponsored by our link town, Strömstad.

Venues for display
St Katherines Hall
Burgage Hall
Community Centre
Pavilion Rooms
John Masefield High School

Benefits

Direct increase in trade and tourism in Ledbury

Single display point for many companies

Interaction with general public and invited guests

Who would attend

Exporters, Importers, Local large businesses, car dealerships, Tech companies - Malvern, DERA, Tourism. Invitations through Strömstad would be sent to similar businesses. Most companies have generic displays which could be used.

Who would run the event -

There would need to be a permanent contact point, with secretarial and administrative support. Event booking would take place here and space allocation. Safety and Security would also be an issue. Ideally this administration should be at Herefordshire Council level

Disadvantages

Lack of Support ,power supplies, space allocation, Organisation level. High level of response would also be a problem.

January 2000 Trip - actual

I enclose some info which will be of interest giving the arrangements and flight details to date, but Peter in Pilnicks Travel in the High Street, Ledbury knows all about the trip. Some of the costs are a bit vague, but the Strömstad people are contributing to our accommodation costs and finding all meals etc. There will be a charge for the coach to the airport here about £25/30 return, and probably about the same or a little more Gothenburg-Strömstad. We are expected to settle all our expenses individually. Passports are needed and make your own insurance arrangements.
